Budget and Economic Update Breakfast
05 Mar 2014
PKF, in conjunction with Efficient Advise, hosted their annual Budget and Economic Update Breakfast on the morning of 5 March 2014 at the Bridge Street Brewery with over 100 clients in attendance.
It was a picturesque setting accompanied by beautiful weather, as the presentations were delivered by Paul Gering, Tax Director at PKF Durban, and Dawie Roodt, Chief Economist and Director at the Efficient Group.
Paul Gering provided a detailed look at the recent budget speech by Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan, and the latest case laws affecting tax legislation.
Dawie Roodt summarises his presentation as follows: "Pravin's Shenanigans - The sailing ship of South African state spending has started to throw down the anchor. Minister of finance, Pravin Gordhan made us swallow some really bad news with a smile, as he was busy walking the plank. However, Captain of Economics, Dawie Roodt explained how the clever charismatic minister "cooked the books" to make it all seem like a fairy tale in our rainbow nation. The truth is that debt doesn't lie, it just postpones taxes."
